Two oysters open and closed

Two oyster shells are presented. The larger, open oyster displays a concave interior and an exterior marked by alternating dark brown and off-white stripes. Its edges are irregular and undulating. The smaller, closed oyster exhibits a predominantly dark, almost black, coloration and a more uniform, oblong shape with a smoother perimeter. Both shells possess a glossy sheen, suggesting a polished or smooth texture. The open shell's function is to protect and house the oyster within, while the closed shell serves to safeguard the organism inside.
